About This Place

Flavor of Punjab is a delightful haven for lovers of authentic North Indian cuisine nestled in the heart of Long Beach, CA. This cozy, intimate restaurant on 5650 2nd St exudes a warm, inviting atmosphere perfect for casual dining, whether you're stopping by for a comforting meal or planning a small gathering. The setting is unpretentious yet comfortable, featuring several booths and small tables that encourage conversation and savoring every bite.

At Flavor of Punjab, the menu bursts with traditional flavors and time-honored recipes that transport diners straight to the vibrant kitchens of Punjab. Among the crowd favorites, the Punjab Curry for Two stands out — rich, aromatic, and deeply satisfying, crafted with a perfect balance of spices that awaken your palate without overpowering it. The Chicken Do-Piaza, tender chicken slow-cooked with sautéed onions, delivers layers of sweetness and spice in every mouthful, while the Chicken Saag expertly blends succulent chicken with fresh spinach, making for a soul-warming, hearty dish.

If you love tandoori fare, their offerings such as Tandoori Chicken and the Mixed Tandoori platter — a savory selection featuring Chicken Tikka, Shish Kebab, and Lamb Tikka — are marinated to perfection, grilling a smoky char that enhances the tender meats. Vegetarian guests will delight in starters like the crisp, golden Vegetable Samosa and Pakora, both seasoned with an inviting blend of spices and perfect as appetizers or sides.

Breads are a highlight in their own right. Whether it’s the fluffy, garlic-infused Garlic Naan, the layered richness of Laccha Paratha, or the stuffed goodness of Keema Naan and Aloo Parantha, each fresh bread complements the curries and tandoori dishes beautifully, inviting you to scoop up every last bit of savory sauce.

Completing your meal is a treat with desserts like the delicately sweet Rasmalai, offering a creamy, cardamom-kissed finale, or indulging in traditional Mukhwas, a fragrant digestive aid often served after meals. Pair your food with unique offerings such as Taj Mahal Beer or a refreshing Mojito to enhance your dining experience.

Reviews from patrons reflect an appreciation for not only the delicious food but also the attentive and warm service. Lisa Korney highlights the sweet, friendly servers and flavorsome lamb and vegetarian dishes, noting the korma lived up to its stellar reputation. Stephen Sabu praises the accommodating staff and the overall enjoyable experience, while Lord Rat returns time and again, relishing the spicy customization and authentic tastes, though suggesting small service improvements. Takeout enthusiasts like Jan Block find the tandoori chicken an ample and satisfying order, perfectly suited for sharing at home.

While some visitors note the intimate space may not suit large groups or long dining sessions, the charm of Flavor of Punjab lies in its genuine flavors, honest portions, and approachable ambiance. This is a gem for anyone looking to savor classic Indian dishes made with care and authenticity, whether dining in or taking their feast to go.

For a taste journey rich in tradition, aromatic spices, and hearty, lovingly prepared meals, Flavor of Punjab stands out as a must-visit destination in Long Beach’s vibrant culinary scene.

Sweet and friendly server , small restaurant. Several booths and a few small tables. Not fancy but comfortable. We ordered 2 lamb dishes and one vegetarian, all were tasty. The korma was noted on other recommendations so we tried and were not disappointed. The dessert was a small portion so I wished the kheer had a bit more serving for the cost. I keep forgetting to take photos but other reviews include. Beer and wine options but no cocktails fyi. Extra note/ This is Definitely better than another Indian restaurant further down Second st amidst the sport bar district. ( Natraj) That one has small portions, less fresh, and less friendly service. They also upcharge / don't even include rice with their entrees. We will visit Flavor of Punjab again.

This place was a delight to come visit again. The first time I had the chicken tiki marsala with garlic naan, tea and a desert. This time around it was just as great. The staff was polite but could have been a little better at keeping the water glass full. They didn't mind us staying a little late. The food is awesome and they'll make it as spicy as you wish. "Level 5" is plenty hot but I've tried it at an "8" with a side of spicy sauce to try it hotter with a few bites and let me tell you, I could only handle one bite with the extra sauce. I now call this side of sauce "the eff you sauce" because if you add it, your eff'd. Haha. All in all I will continue to come back because it's that good.

Authentic Indian dishes. The taste was fantastic. Service was also good. My only qualm about this place was the atmosphere. The place is very small and badly maintained. I would definitely recommend this place for taking-out delicious Indian food, but not for dining-in.

Excellent take out and one order of tandoori chicken is enough to share. I make my own raita but an order to go with the naan would be good. There are two sauces for the papadams
